After PPL qualification, many people decide to take their studies or enjoyment of flying a stage further. This may be with advanced training for an IMC or night qualification, or even an instrument rating, leading to a full career in aviation.

With the recent introduction of the Glass Cockpit into 'General Aviation', there has never been a more exciting time to make the transition from aircraft with conventional guages, to, as the CAA & FAA call them, "Technologically Advanced Aircraft" most notably with Garmin & Avidyne Systems.

Pilots will find that once the differences training has been completed they will be flying the most advanced avionics in the skies on this type of aircraft.

Our 2006, Cessna 172SP Skyhawk, has a 180hp engine and is fitted with NAV III avionics. This includes a 2 axis autopilot and full IFR capability allowing you to cruise comfortably at 120 kts.

The G1000 glass cockpit is the most intelligent flight deck package ever to fly on this class of aircraft. The G1000 intergrates all primary flight, engine and sensor data to provide intuitve 'at a glance' situational awareness. Real time flight critical information is presented on 2 large & colourful 10.4" LCD displays. The databases in each aircraft are updated monthly to ensure up to date vital information.

The differences training will generally cover:-

For VFR Flying

(a) Understanding the aircraft and avionics systems
(b) Reviewing the differences between G1000 and standard avionics aircraft
(c) Ground Training

    - Basic Elements of the G1000 System
    - PFD and MFD menus, functions and operations
    - Operation of the Radio and Audio panels
    - System failures and backups

(c) Flight Training:

    - Performing Manouvers, G1000 inflight operation and navigation followed by
    - In flight demonstration to flight instructor to ensure compliance and capability with a certificate issued upon completion

For IFR Flying

(a) All of the above VFR points plus
(b) In flight training

    - Performing basic IR manouvers including stalls, steep turns, unusual altitude recovery approaches, holding and       reversionary and failied modes
    - In-flight demonstration to flight instructor to demonstrate IFR operations and approaches
